Mr Krishna talking to patients
Started 13 years ago by one of Mr Krishna’s first patients, Tori Cummings – the Tees Valley Spinal Support Group has been running successfully from North Tees Hospital Teaching Centre.
Having undergone spinal surgery herself, Tori wanted to help other patients and started coffee mornings at the hospital, where patients could come along and talk to those who had already undergone surgery in order to find out more about what to expect both pre, during and after surgery.
These coffee mornings grew to be so popular that the Group now meet in a lecture theatre in the Teaching Centre at the Hospital. Mr Krishna always attends the meetings, patients swap stories, and there are talks by Anaesthetists, physiotherapists, etc.
The group decided to apply for, and was given charity status in 2000, and became the Tees Valley Spinal Support Group Trust, with a nickname of ‘Bouncing Back’. Hundreds of patients now are involved in meetings, fund raising and social events.
